Boon Brewery scores never-before-seen hat trick at the Brussels Beer Challenge 2018

Lembeek Lambic Brewery wins even a total of 4 medals

Boon Brewery performed an unmatched stunt at the Brussels Beer Challenge 2018. The Lembeek Lambic Brewery won gold, silver and bronze and occupied the entire stage in the category 'Old style Gueuze-Lambic'. The Oude Geuze Boon VAT 108 took the top prize. The Oude Geuze Boon Black Label came in second and the Geuze Mariage Parfait won the bronze medal.

Frank's son Karel, who joined his family brewery together with his brother Jos, almost could not believe the news today: "Nobody expected this, and we certainly did not. Three medals in a row in one category is really unique. In addition, we also won the silver medal for our Oude Kriek in the category 'Old style Fruit-Lambic'. We had sent in 4 beers and all four won a prize! This is a great encouragement for our family to continue on the chosen path."

With the achievement at the Brussels Beer Challenge 2018 Boon Brewery is confirming its previous performances. In May 2018 the Lambic brewer won gold for the sixth time in a row at the World Beer Cup 2018, the most prestigious beer competition in the world, with the Oude Geuze Boon VAT 108 which came in first.

The first edition of the Brussels Beer Challenge was organised in 2012. This year 1,522 beers from 46 countries took part. The beers were first divided into different categories based on their origin, specificity and style. A panel of 88 internationally renowned beer experts blindly tasted all the beers during three days.

Frank Boon started in the lambic world in 1975. He is one of the brewers who put the Oude Geuze worldwide on the map. With his sons Jos and Karel joining the company, Boon Brewery became a real family brewery. In 2017, Boon produced more than 24,000 hectoliters. With more than 2 million liters of lambic, Boon Brewery has the world's largest lambic stock in oak barrels.
