Boon Oude Geuze Black Label Edition N°6 Wins Gold at Brussels Beer Challenge 2021

Boon Oude Geuze Black Label Edition N°6 Wins Gold at Brussels Beer Challenge 2021

Boon, the Lembeek-based lambic brewery, achieved a great result at the 10th edition of the Brussels Beer Challenge. Oude Geuze Black Label Edition N°6 and Young & Wild Fontan-Elle of Lambiek Fabriek are sharing first place in the 'Old Style Gueuze-Lambic' category. Both won a gold medal today. The Boon Black Label Edition N°6 is a true prize winner because this Oude Geuze also scored silver at the World Beer Awards 2021.

“We are delighted with this result. Previous editions of our Oude Geuze Black Label have also won awards at the Brussels Beer Challenge. The very first Black Label took silver in 2016, and the Boon Oude Geuze Black Label Edition N°5 did the same three years ago,” stated Karel Boon.

He added: “This gold medal comes at a special moment, because just today we are presenting the Boon Oude Geuze Black Label Edition N°7 at the Horeca Expo Trade Fair in Ghent. The Black Label Edition N°7 is a blend of one, two and three-year-old Lambic that has matured in oak casks. For the Black Label series, we always select Lambic with a very high degree of final fermentation, which ensures a dry aftertaste.”

The Black Label Edition N°7 was bottled on June 8, 2021. This sparkling Oude Geuze has a round, mellow taste with notes of citrus and apricot.

The Brussels Beer Challenge was organised for the first time in 2012. This year, more than 1800 beers took part in this international competition. They were classified into 64 categories based on their origin, specificity, and style. A jury of 75 internationally renowned beer experts blind-tasted the beers. The best beers in each category got a gold, silver or bronze award.
