Boon Oude Geuze VAT 31 Voted 'World’s Best Gueuze'

Today, Boon Oude Geuze VAT 31 was named ‘World’s Best Gueuze’ at the World Beer Awards 2021. “Everyone at our brewery welcomed the news with great enthusiasm because it takes a lot of time to make this kind of beer. For the Boon Oude Geuze VAT 31, it took 5.5 years: first the brewing, then four and a half years ageing in oak barrels and finally another year of bottle refermentation”, explains Karel Boon. “And one also has to take into account the work we do regarding the selection of the ideal raw materials and the continuous quality assurance.”

In total, Boon won five WBA medals this year: one world title and four silver medals. In the 'Lambic' category, Faro Boon took silver, as well as Geuze Boon Mariage Parfait and Oude Geuze Boon Black Label 6 in the 'Gueuze' category and Framboise Boon in the 'Framboise' category.

Third world title in just four years
It is not the first time that the Boon brewery has won a world title. The gueuzes of the lambic brewer prove to be a permanent fixture on the World Beer Awards podium. In 2018 Boon Oude Geuze VAT 108 was proclaimed 'World’s Best Gueuze' and a year later the classic Boon Oude Geuze took the title.
