Lindemans Premium Distilled Gin Clear wins bronze at prestigious spirits competition

International World & Spirits Competition 2023

On Monday, 27 March 2023, the professional jury of the 2023 International World & Spirits Competition in London awarded Lindemans Premium Distilled Gin Clear a bronze medal. This gin is made from a distillate of Oude Kriek Cuvée René and competed in the ‘Contemporary Distilled Dry Gin’ category. It is an authentic regional product from Belgium, based on Oude Kriek brewed in the Pajottenland region by the Lindemans brewery and subsequently distilled by the De Moor distillery in Aalst.

Lindemans is a family-owned brewery and one of the most renowned producers of gueuze, kriek and other lambic beers. Besides numerous types and flavours of lambic beer, the brewery’s product range has been expanded with two gins: a clear version and a red one. Both are based on a distillate of Lindemans Oude Kriek Cuvée René, to which fifteen carefully selected herbs and spices are added. These include juniper berries, coriander seeds, angelica, orris root, grains of paradise, cardamom, lavender and rosemary. Lindemans Brewery has been working with the Aalst-based De Moor distillery for the production of its gin since 2015. Distiller Patrick Van Schandevijl produces his gins in small batches of up to 250 litres.

The aroma of Lindemans Premium Distilled GinClear is characterised by its refreshing citrus notes. This gin with an ABV of 46% has a pleasant, dry mouthfeel. The initial explosion of citrus on the palate is subtly complemented by the warm after-taste of cardamom seeds and an elegant hint of juniper berries. The infusion of various herbs and spices ensures a well-balanced gin with just the right degree of mellowness. When tonic is added to the gin, the taste of sour cherries subtly comes to the fore.

The second bronze medal this year

This is the second time this year that Lindemans Premium Distilled Gin Clear has been awarded a distinguished prize. In January, the clear gin also won a bronze medal at the World Gin Awards in the ‘botanical gins’ category. The red version was entered in the same category and accorded a gold medal – and promptly crowned ‘Country Winner’.

The first edition of the International Wine and Spirits Competition was held in 1969. Winning an IWSC Award has never been an easy feat. Over time, this competition has built up a solid reputation due to its strict assessment criteria.

The Lindemans family has been brewing authentic lambic beers in Vlezenbeek, in the very heart of Pajottenland, since 1822. In the past 20 years, sales have increased substantially, both in Belgium and internationally. Lindemans is the largest independent family-owned brewery of lambic beers in the world and firmly established as a renowned brand on the international beer market. In 2022, the Pajottenland-based brewery – which employs a workforce of 70 – produced over 120,000 hectolitres of beverages.
